burrito bowl

You’ll need:

  • 2 cups white quinoa

  • 3 Tbs whole golden flax seeds

  • 2 pints grape tomatoes, halved

  • 4 ears raw sweet corn, kernels cut from the cob

  • 1 orange bell pepper, diced

  • 2 cans of black beans, drained and rinsed

  • 1 red onion, diced

  • 1 bunch of cilantro, chopped fine

  • 1 jalapeno, diced very fine

  • juice of 3-4 limes

  • 1 large avocado, cut into slices or diced

  • sea salt and pepper to taste

In a pot over medium heat, bring 4 cups of water to a boil. Add quinoa and a dash of sea salt and cook covered until all the moisture is absorbed, about 15mins. Remove from heat and keep covered.

While your quinoa is cooking, dice your red onion and add to a large mixing bowl with lime juice and sea salt.  Keep adding your veggies (tomatoes, bell pepper, corn, cilantro, and jalapeno  to the bowl as you chop. Letting the veggies sit in the salt & lime juice allows them to marinate and absorb the flavor. Taste and adjust lime juice, salt, and pepper as needed according to taste. This combo is delicious on it’s own, on top of a salad, in a lettuce wrap, or as a lovely salsa!

Next, uncover your quinoa and sprinkle whole flax seeds on top. Use a wooden spoon to fluff the quinoa and mix in your flax seeds. Then add black beans and the veggie mixture. Gently fold all ingredients together. Taste and adjust lime juice, salt, and pepper as needed according to taste.

Totally Healthy Cookie Recipe

Is there such a thing as healthy cookies? Of course there is. We found this yummy, healthy, vegan cookie recipe at minimalistbaker.com. These cookies are so tasty and healthy. It only required five ingredients and does not even contain eggs, sugar, flour or butter. They are made out of totally healthy ingredients, promise.

5 INGREDIENT VEGAN GLUTEN FREE COOKIES

PREP TIME

COOK TIME

TOTAL TIME

Simple, 5 ingredient V + GF cookies that are healthy, simple and delicious.

Author: Minimalist Baker

Recipe type: Dessert

Cuisine: Vegan, Gluten Free

Serves: 2 dozen

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 cup Dates, packed (soaked for 10 minutes in warm water and then drained)

  • 1 medium ripe banana

  • 2 Tbsp all natural, salted almond butter or peanut butter

  • 3/4 cup almond meal (ground from raw almonds)

  • 3/4 cup gluten free rolled oats

  • Optional add-ins: dried fruit, dairy-free chocolate chips, flaxseed, seeds, nuts

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Add dates to a food processor and pulse until small bits remain.

  2. Add banana and almond butter and mix again until combined, scraping down the sides as needed.

  3. Next add the almond meal and rolled oats and pulse until a loose dough is formed. It will be kind of wet and sticky. That’s OK! You’re on the right track.

  4. Scrape your dough into a mixing bowl. If it feels too wet to the touch to form into cookies, add another few Tbsp of almond meal and/or oats and stir. I added another few tablespoons of each until I was able to form them into cookies without them sticking to my hands.

  5. At this point, you can add in 1/4 cup of your mix-in of choice, such as dairy-free dark chocolate chips, raisins or nuts. Then chill dough for 10 minutes and preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

  6. Scoop out 1 Tbsp amounts of your cookie dough and form into loose discs, then arrange on a parchment lined baking sheet. They won’t expand so pack them closer together (but not touching).

  7. Bake for 15-18 minutes or until golden brown and somewhat firm to the touch. The good thing about these cookies is a little under-baked is OK since there’s no eggs and they’ll ultimately just be a little more moist.

  8. Remove and let set for a few minutes on the pan, then carefully transfer to a plate or cooling rack to cool. Serve immediately.

  9. Store leftovers in an airtight container for several days. Move to the fridge or freezer for longer term storage.

How To Get A Boost Of Energy Naturally

Need a boost of energy to get you through the day?

We all do from time to time, some days more than others.

If you sit at a desk all day, in front of a computer at work or school, it can sometimes get kind of difficult trying to stay awake.

A little boost of energy just might do the trick.

We were looking around for natural ways to boost energy and came upon these solutions.

Maybe one is good for you!

The alternative sources of caffeine…

Try yerba maté or guarana. —Arrietty Gray

Doctor’s note: Yerba maté tea’s caffeine content is roughly the same as coffee’s, but guarana is twice as strong—keep daily doses between 200 and 800 mg.

The do-anywhere fix…

Rub the edges of your ears between two fingers from the very top all the way to the bottom a few times. —Chris Padilla

Acupuncturist’s note: In traditional Chinese medicine, the upper part of the body is associated with more active energies. Massaging the ears increases this energy, creating a sense of wakefulness.

The green remedy…

Sip a shot of wheat-grass juice. —Ursula Harrington

How To Live To 100 Years Old

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ti28jmD1c2I

It’s a well know fact that taking care of your body will help you live longer. Want to live to 100 years of age? Here are some health habits listed on health.usnews.com that can get you there.

happy birthday

11 Health Habits That Will Help You Live to 100

1. Don’t retire. “Evidence shows that in societies where people stop working abruptly, the incidence of obesity and chronic disease skyrockets after retirement,” says Luigi Ferrucci, director of the Baltimore Longitudinal Study of Aging.

2. Floss every day. That may help keep your arteries healthy.

3. Move around. Study after study has documented the benefits of exercise to improve your mood, mental acuity, balance, muscle mass, and bones.

4. Eat a fiber-rich cereal for breakfast. Getting a serving of whole-grains, especially in the morning, appears to help older folks maintain stable blood sugar levels throughout the day, according to a recent study conducted by Ferrucci and his colleagues. “Those who do this have a lower incidence of diabetes, a known accelerator of aging,” he says.

5. Get at least six hours of shut-eye. Instead of skimping on sleep to add more hours to your day, get more to add years to your life. “Sleep is one of the most important functions that our body uses to regulate and heal cells,” says Ferrucci.

6. Consume whole foods, not supplements. Strong evidence suggests that people who have high blood levels of certain nutrients—selenium, beta-carotene, vitamins C and E—age much better and have a slower rate of cognitive decline.

7. Be less neurotic. If this inborn trait is hard to overcome, find better ways to manage when you’re stressed: Yoga, exercise, meditation, tai chi, or just deep breathing for a few moments are all good.

8. Live like a Seventh Day Adventist. Americans who define themselves as Seventh Day Adventists have an average life expectancy of 89, about a decade longer than the average American. Followers typically stick to a vegetarian diet based on fruits, vegetables, beans, and nuts, and get plenty of exercise. They’re also very focused on family and community.

9. Be a creature of habit. Going to bed and waking up at the same time each day is another good habit to keep your body in the steady equilibrium that can be easily disrupted as you get on in years.

10. Stay connected. Having regular social contacts with friends and loved ones is key to avoiding depression, which can lead to premature death, something that’s particularly prevalent in elderly widows and widowers.

11. Be conscientious. The strongest personality predictor of a long life is conscientiousness—that is, being prudent, persistent, and well organized, according to The Longevity Project, coauthored by Howard Friedman and Leslie Martin. Read More…

New Vegan Market Coming To America

Announcement made that a German-based vegan supermarket chain called “Veganz” that caters only to vegans plans to open a store in the United States in 2016.

The market opened in Germany in 2011 and has been opening stores in Europe over the past several years.
Veganz

Started by Jan Bredack, who adopted a vegan lifestyle in 2009, Veganz was born out of Bredack’s desire to share his own transformation with others. “The decision to open a vegan supermarket came from a potpourri of ideas after coming across various vegan products in the US and Russia.” According to Ecorazzi, Bredack noted “it was difficult to ‘shop normally’ when one adopts a vegan lifestyle, and he wanted to make the switch to veganism more accessible to everyone.”

Bredack’s first plans for the U.S. start in 2016 in Portland, Ore.—a town known for its vegan food and culture. But Bredack will soon find that there are many towns ripe for vegan-dedicated supermarkets. Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, Chicago—all have strong vegan cultures. Even parts of Texas (besides Austin) have booming vegan communities.

Learn These Amazing Benefits of Switching To Himalayan Salt

For years, I have been hearing that we need to avoid salt. Have you? According to information we researched over at www.organicauthority.com, our bodies need salt, just not the regular processed salt we get at the grocery store.

They say we need the “pure, unrefined salt that retains its minerals and brings more complexity to your diet. “The processed salt most of us buy or eat at restaurants and in processed foods, doesn’t do our body any good. If you like salt, switch to a salt rich in minerals. One suggestion is Himalayan crystal salt which is an unrefined salt rich in minerals.

Himalayan-salt

What It Is

Like other unrefined salts, Himalayan salt is a “full-spectrum” salt. By that I mean it contains the full spectrum of minerals and other nutrients that improve your health. It contains 84 minerals and trace elements, because it is unrefined, unprocessed, and basically “raw”. Himalayan salt is hand-mined from salt caves formed some 250 million years ago.

In the 20th century, doctors noticed that those who consumed refined salt began to develop chronic degenerative diseases, often incited by a lack of iodine in salt. Salt refiners then began to add iodine to salt, hoping to fill the gap. What they did, however, was miss the entire point altogether. Unrefined salt, such as Himalayan salt, not only contains iodine, a naturally occurring mineral, but also more than 80 other minerals. Refining salt in the first place not only stripped salt of its iodine content but also of its entire mineral profile. But because iodine was the most obvious missing piece, salt refiners simply added it back in to otherwise lifeless refined salt. This is how iodized salt was born, but artificially so.

Himalayan salt is formed under extreme tectonic pressure, in an environment with no exposure to toxins and impurities. It has a light pink hue, a good indication of its “full spectrum” qualities, and a unique cellular structure. Its minerals are in colloidal form, which means that they are small enough for the body’s cells to absorb quickly and easily.

Benefits of Himalayan salt include: regulating water levels in the body; maintaining a healthy pH balance; promoting blood sugar health; reducing the signs of aging; increasing absorption of minerals in the colon; improving heart health; reducing cramps; improving bone strength; promoting positive sleep patterns; encouraging sexual appetite; promoting kidney and gall bladder health; and reducing sinus problems. 5 Great Reasons To Eat More Spinach

Spinach – a leafy green vegetable that can provide some really good health benefits with all the nutrients it contains.

Popeye was right when he said: “I’m strong to the finish, ’cause I eats me Spinach, I’m Popeye the sailor man! (toot, toot)” – Popeye (from theme song)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FvPs6A4eyBI

Read on to find five of those great benefits that we researched and found over at www.naturally-healthy-eating.com:

Spinach

1. This is a very nutrient-dense food. It’s low in calories yet very high in vitamins, minerals and other phytonutrients. When you consume this healthy food, you don’t need to worry about your weight-loss diet as you take in abundant, good-for-you nutrients. This leafy green is an excellent source of vitamin K, vitamin A, magnesium, folate, manganese, iron, calcium, vitamin C, vitamin B2, potassium, and vitamin B6. It’s a very good source of protein, phosphorus, vitamin E, zinc, dietary fiber, and copper. Plus, it’s a good source of selenium, niacin, and omega-3 fatty acids.

2. One of the benefits of spinach is that this green is readily available, nearly all over the world. Even though, with its abundant nutrient profile, it sounds like an amazing super food, it’s still easy to find in the market or easy to grow. In addition, it’s affordable.

3. This is a versatile food. It can be eaten raw in a salad (and is much more nutritious than iceberg lettuce) or a green smoothie. Or it can be cooked (lightly, please) and eaten as a dish on its own or added to soups and other dishes. If boiling, use the least amount of water possible for the shortest time.

4. Spinach is loaded with flavonoids which act as antioxidants, protecting the body from free radicals. Researchers have discovered at least 13 different flavonoid compounds that act as anti-cancer substances. The various nutrients offer much in the way of disease protection.Remember Popeye? He squeezed those cans of spinach into his mouth and instantly developed muscles and super strength. Well, he also may have been protecting himself against various illnesses and conditions.

5. Another of the benefits of spinach is that this is a heart-healthy food. It’s an outstanding source of vitamins C and A which are antioxidants that help reduce free radical amounts in the body. The antioxidants work to keep cholesterol from oxidizing. In addition, folate is good for a healthy cardiovascular system, as well as magnesium, a mineral that helps to lower high blood pressure. 8 Allergy Remedies That Are Natural and Healthy - No Prescription Required

Every spring and summer many people suffer from itchy, watery eyes from allergies. Some even have sneezing, stuffy noses, and trouble breathing due to the large amount of pollen in the air.

If you suffer from these allergies, you might want to try these natural, healthy allergy remedies that we found on Natural Living Ideas website.

8-Natural-Remedies-for-Allergies

1. Butterbur

Referring to a number of plants of the genus Petasites in the daisy family, Butterbur roots and foliage have long been used as herbal remedies for inflammation, headaches, and to alleviate symptoms of grass pollen allergies, also known as hay fever. While a proven effective remedy, Butterbur should be used with caution as the plant also contains highly toxic pyrrolizidine alkaloids which are damaging to the liver and may cause cancer. Use only Butterbur extracts certified to be PA-free.

2. Quercetin

An anti-oxidant and bioflavonoid or plant pigment naturally-occurring in onions, green tea, red wine, apples, berries, and many other foods, quercetin prevents the immune system from releasing histamines in response to allergens. Quercetin also possesses anti-inflammatory properties which can help relieve nasal congestion and sinus pressure. Try this quercetin supplement from Irwin Naturals for excellent natural allergy relief which also contains Bromelain – the next item on our list.

3. Bromelain

Extracted from pineapple juice and stems, Bromelain is an enzyme which reduces inflammation caused by histamines in the nasal and sinus cavities – a common discomfort experienced by allergy sufferers. Bromelain is most helpful to allergy sufferers when taken in conjunction with an anti-histamine.

4. Guduchi

Also known as Amrit – the Sanskrit word for ‘imperishable’ – Guduchi is revered in the Ayurvedic pharmacy as one of the most useful plants in existence. Only recently catching on in the western world, Guduchi has been used in eastern medicine for thousands of years to relieve inflammation, heal the immune system, prevent colds, cure stress-related illness, treat skin ailments, reduce toxins in the liver and blood, and as an anti-arthritic. To boost your immune system and relieve symptoms of hay fever, this supplement has been proven to be effective.

5. Stinging Nettle

Despite its unfriendly name, Urtica dioica – the stinging nettle plant has many herbal uses that can benefit human health including the reduction of hay fever symptoms. Stinging nettle should be taken at the first sign of seasonal allergies for maximum benefit. This herb should always be handled with care and ingested only in prepared form as the unaltered leaves and stems – the parts of the plant which are used to treat allergy symptoms – are covered in tiny hairs which deliver a chemical ‘sting’ when touched.

6. Timothy Grass

Phleum pratense, commonly known as Timothy Grass has long been used as a remedy for grass pollen allergies. Timothy grass is also safe for children and for people with asthma. When taken in small doses either under the tongue or subcutaneously, the pollen of Timothy grass acts like a vaccine, gradually immunizing against hay fever. A homeopathic preparation of Phleum pratense in tablet and liquid form are available from bioAllers. For additional information about subcutaneous immunotherapy for seasonal allergies, consult with a physician.

7. Local Honey

Though there haven’t been enough clinical studies to prove why it works, a majority of seasonal allergy patients will attest to the effectiveness of local honey is lessening or preventing symptoms. Because it contains a wide sampling of local pollen carried on the bodies of the bees who make it, one can hypothesize that locally-produced honey works much the same as grass pollen immunotherapy. By gradually exposing your immune system to tiny amounts of pollen gathered from local flora, you eventually desensitize your immune system to its effects. Plus, honey contains complex carbohydrates in addition to simple sugars, putting it a step above other natural sweeteners on the health scale. Check your local farmer’s market for honey producers in your area.

8. Neti Pot

Last but not least on our list of natural allergy remedies is the Neti pot. This handy little device is used to cleanse allergens from the nasal cavity using a saline rinse. Recommended use for Neti pot cleansing is twice per day.

Keep in mind that everyone’s immune system is different. What works for one person, may not be effective for the next. Experiment with these natural allergy remedies until you find a combination that provides optimum relief for you.

8 Amazing Benefits Of Eating Watermelon - #6 Is Fantastic For You!

Watermelon, one of the most refreshing fruits to eat in the summer. You may not realize it, however this fruit has some amazing benefits for our health. When you read below, you will see that it is something worth adding to your everyday diet. Who knew eating watermelon would do all these wonderful things for us?

Watermelon

Many studies have suggested that increasing consumption of watermelon can help decrease the risk of obesity and overall mortality, diabetes, and heart disease. Watermelon also promotes healthier complexions and hair, as well as increasing energy levels.

One cup of diced watermelon (152 grams) contains 43 calories, 0 grams of fat, 2 grams of sodium, 11 grams of carbohydrate (including 9 grams of sugar and 1 gram of fiber) and 1 gram of fiber. One cup of watermelon will provide 17% of vitamin A, 21% of vitamin C, 2% of iron and 1% of calcium needs for the day.

Watermelon also contains thiamin, riboflavin, niacin, vitamin B-6, folate, pantothenic acid, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, zinc, copper, manganese, selenium, choline, lycopene and betaine. According to the National Watermelon Promotion Board, watermelon contains more lycopene than any other fruit or vegetable.

Watermelons

Here are a few of the benefits adding a cup or two of watermelon daily to your diet will bring:

  1. Asthma prevention: The risks for developing asthma are lower in people who consume a high amount of certain nutrients. One of these nutrients is vitamin C, found in abundance in watermelon.

  2. Blood pressure: A study published by the American Journal of Hypertension found that watermelon “reduced ankle blood pressure, brachial blood pressure and carotid wave reflection in obese middle-aged adults with prehypertension or stage 1 hypertension”. The study also showed that watermelon consumption improved arterial function.

  3. Cancer: An excellent source of the antioxidant vitamin C, as well as others, watermelon can help combat the formation of free radicals known to cause cancer. Lycopene intake, for example, has been linked to a decreased risk of prostate cancer prevention in several studies.

  6. Inflammation: Choline is a very important and versatile nutrient that aids in sleep, muscle movement, learning and memory. Choline also helps to maintain the structure of cellular membranes, assists in the transmission of nerve impulses, and helps in the absorption of fat. Choline can also alleviate chronic inflammation.

  7. Muscle soreness: Watermelon and its juice have been shown to reduce muscle soreness and improve recovery time following exercise in athletes. Researchers believe this is likely do to the amino acid L-citrulline that watermelon contains.

  8. Skin: Watermelon is fantastic for your skin because it contains vitamin A, a nutrient required for sebum production that keeps hair moisturized. Vitamin A is also necessary for the growth of all bodily tissues, including skin and hair.

Please remember to choose organic whenever possible!

Avocado, The Superfruit - 7 Reasons Why...

Avocado

The avocado, a dark green pitted fruit, is typically known for having a high fat content. However, the fruit is very healthy for you. Below are some amazing benefits you give your body when you eat this superfruit.

Seven reasons why avocados should be part of our daily meals

(1) Avocados are high in easily assimilated plant protein. All the amino acids are set for your metabolism to assemble into complete proteins. This takes a load off your pancreas from wasting cancer cell fighting proteolytic enzymes for breaking down meat proteins.

(2) Okay meat eaters, GreenMedInfo summarized a study that showed eating hamburgers with a slice of avocado limited triglyceride serum level increases. Most knowledgeable cardiologists consider triglyceride serum levels as stronger markers for potential heart disease and inflammation than LDL cholesterol.

(3) Avocados are high in natural vitamin E, which is a powerful antioxidant that helps prevent cancer. Synthetic vitamin E can be toxic.

(4) Avocados help the liver manufacture glutathione, considered the master antioxidant by all health experts. Glutathione actually refreshes and recycles spent antioxidants from other sources.

The master mineral magnesium, involved with over 300 metabolic processes, is also abundant. Two masters in one tasty food. Pretty good!

(5) Reduce breast cancer risk with avocados high lutein, vitamin E, and high content monounsaturated oleic fatty acid. This has been validated by studies. So ladies, quit counting calories so much and eat more avocados.

(6) Improve heart health for promoting better blood flow and lowering blood pressure by consuming avocados. Again, this is due to their abundant oleic acid content.

(7) Improve brain function and stave dementia by consuming avocados. Avocados are a close second to blueberries for promoting brain health, according to Dr. Steven Pratt, author of Superfoods Rx: Fourteen Foods Proven to Change Your Life.

Squeeze the avocado to see if it is ripe. When slightly soft, it is ready to eat.

Popular Children"s Cereal Found to Contain Paint Thinner-Find Out Which Ones

I found this video originally posted on http://www.activistpost.com and just had to share it with you. If this is true, and according to the article it is, this is really a shame that these companies would put this ingredient in our children’s cereal. Are they trying to kill us?

http://youtu.be/TCW5Nc9fyWg

A lot of home builders and painters will know what trisodium phosphate (TSP) is. But a lot of them don’t know that they eat it for breakfast!

Even though it appears right on the ingredients label, a lot of people don’t realize it’s an industrial cleaning agent. It gets worse (see below video), the government doesn’t even want you to clean with it because it’s considered bad for the environment. It’s an okay part of a complete breakfast though!

While it is not a paint thinner in and of itself, it is used to wash painted walls in preparation. It is also a degreaser, mildew remover, siding cleaner and can abate lead in paint with repeated washing. All of these types of applications come with first aid warnings due to its extreme alkalinity.

Of course it is approved as GRAS (generally recognized as safe) by the FDA as a food additive. But the government has also decided it is bad for the environment because of algae blooms in fresh water. TSP was phased out of dishwashing and laundry products around 2011. But not for commercial use because, you know, they need to keep things clean for people. And not for chemical pesticides which many speculate is the real cause for invasive algae blooms due to waste water run off. Regular folk aren’t supposed to clean with it because of the environment – but it’s okay in their food…

Your Perfume May Be Killing You

toxic perfume

Man-made perfume obviously are not the same as plant oils. According to Health Impact News, the man-made kind of perfume may actually be toxic and can harm your health. In some people even causing a slow death.

Naturally fragrant essential oils can heal illness, but manufactured scents can make people sick and even cause death. Can you tell the difference? Are man-made artificial fragrances making you ill?

We call the highly fragrant plant oils that are extracted from rose, lemon, and frankincense “essential oils”. These essential oils have the capacity to heal illness when they are inhaled, applied to the skin, or taken orally. Essential oils that have the ability to heal illness must be completely natural and cannot be altered through human intervention.

Essential oils are usually produced through distillation and are expensive to produce. Their availability is often very limited, because large amounts of plant material are required to produce a very small amount of oil, or the plant species are rare. They are also in high demand for medicinal purposes.

Most Fragrances are Synthetic and Inexpensive

Because of the high price and limited availability of essential oils, many large corporations have turned to much less expensive synthetic fragrances for use in their products. Perfumes, colognes, cleaning products, “air fresheners,” laundry products, and most all other household and personal care products contain artificial fragrances made in laboratories from petroleum and coal tar. These man-made smells attempt to imitate the fragrance of essential oils at a tiny fraction of the cost.

Cheap manufactured fragrances enable marketing firms to emphasize their “special fragrances” when they market their products. They often market the fragrance as much as they market the functional purpose of the product. They attempt to get customers to develop brand loyalty based on the scent of the product. Their advertising campaigns attempt to convince consumers that they should want to purchase products that “smell nice” — the way their superior brand smells. Approximately 95% of the fragrance compounds in scented products are synthetic and not made from natural essential oils. [1]

Artificial Fragrances contain Unhealthy Chemicals

Most natural essential oils are quite volatile. They easily dissipate into the air, which is why the smell of roses or lilacs spreads for hundreds of feet from the plant. On the other hand, manufacturers of synthetic fragrances must add toxic solvents to make their synthetic fragrances become volatile so that they can dissipate into the air. They also add toxic chemicals to make the airborne fragrance molecules become sticky so they will cling to clothing, hair, furniture, and skin. This causes the smell to persist for hours or days or months. Additionally, fragrance manufacturers routinely add chemicals that have narcotic and hormone-like effects.

With respect to perfumes and colognes, the chemicals that are added have powerful effects. They ease emotional pain and make people feel good (narcotic effect), or make people feel sexy or attract the interest of the opposite sex (hormonal effect). They also can be carcinogenic. [2]

Exposure to Perfume and Cologne Causes Addiction

Daily exposure to the chemicals in perfumes and colognes create chemical dependency (addiction). As with all other forms of addiction, people tend to use more and more fragrance over time and switch to stronger and stronger fragrances, because they don’t feel the desired effect.

This addiction effect increases sales of perfume and cologne, and builds brand loyalty. There are many people who feel that they are not ready to start the day until they have had their coffee and have put on perfume or cologne. They feel that they are not fully dressed until they put on their scent.

Exposure to Artificial Fragrances Causes Illness

A large number of chemicals that are contained in synthetic fragrance formulas are known to be carcinogenic and neurotoxic. However, the fragrance manufacturing industry is not required to prove safety. Consequently, synthetic fragrances are not evaluated for health risks to adults or children. [3]

Many people spend thousands of dollars trying to solve health problems caused by synthetic fragrances. Numerous conditions clear up when people reduce their exposure to toxic fragrances.

Alarming Statistics About The Obesity Crisis Around The World

Obesity is not know as a disease by most people. However, there is a new report that obesity continues to rise in many countries around the world.

Most people in OECD countries are overweight or obese. The social and economic consequences of this epidemic are dramatic, exposing an increasing number of people to chronic diseases such as diabetes, heart disease and cancer.

New OECD data and analysis reveal that obesity levels have continued to rise in most countries over the past five years, but more slowly than before. Obesity has been virtually stable in England, Italy, Korea, and the United States but has increased by 2-3% in Australia, Canada, France, Mexico, Spain, and Switzerland.

obesity chart

One in five children is overweight, on average, in OECD countries, but rates are as high as one in three in countries like Greece, Italy, Slovenia and the US. However, more countries have managed to stabilise or even slightly reduce rates of child obesity than they have of adult obesity.

OECD data show that obesity is also an inequality issue, especially in women. The economic crisis has made families spend less on food, but poor households have also switched to junk foods with high calories. But in countries with very high levels of obesity, such as Mexico and the US, people with more education are now as likely to be obese as those with less education.

FDA Wants You To Stop Eating Organic, Healthy Free-Range Chicken...Why?

The FDA wants you to stop eating organic, healthy free-range chicken, under the pretense of helping to scale back on cases of salmonella poisoning,

http://youtu.be/zgVFmfibjeE

The FDA is threatening to do away with pastured poultry and free-range chickens to help reduce the threat of salmonella. A document recently released by the federal agency – titled “Questions and Answers Regarding the Final Rule, Prevention of Salmonella Enteritidis in Shell Eggs During Production, Storage, and Transportation” — pushes for all egg producers with at least 3,000 laying hens be forced to raise the poultry indoors. The FDA rule requires that chickens always be kept away from mice, rats and wild birds. The agency believes that such a rule would eliminate customer access to eggs and birds contaminated with bacteria.

Even Though People Are Starving, Reports Show We Are Wasting Half Of Our Food Supply

http://youtu.be/cWC_zDdF74s

It is just a shame that people would rather waste food rather than give it away just because it doesn’t look quite good enough to sell. What is this world thinking? People are starving all over the world. We need to conserve the food and feed the poor instead of just throwing it away. Watch the video for more information on the global food waste scandal.

That old bunch of carrots or pot of soup that sat for too long in your fridge, then ended up in your trash, doesn’t seem like much. But when multiplied over an entire year and expanded globally, the problem of food waste becomes one of epic proportions.

A report about food waste has Britain’s largest supermarkets on the defense. The report suggests that up to half of the world’s food is thrown away, and many supermarkets play a significant role with poor storage, strict sell-by dates, and bulk offers.

The report entitled “Global Food: Waste Not, Want Not,”1 published in 2013 by the British Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IME), found that more than two billion tons of food is wasted annually.

The study claims that up to 30 percent of perfectly good vegetables are not harvested simply because they aren’t pretty. Thirty to 50 percent of the four billion tons of food produced around the world each year never reaches a human mouth.

If you tally up the total food lost—that which is harvested but never eaten due to spoilage or contamination from mold or pests—the figure for year 2010 is 133 billion pounds of food, or 31 percent of the total food supply.5 And the costs are not just to your pocketbook—many are hidden or at least less obvious. When the resources to produce food are considered, the true cost of this waste amounts to:

25 percent of all fresh water

Four percent of the oil we consume

$165 billion (more than $40 billion from households)

$750 million per year just to dispose of discarded food

33 million tons of landfill waste

One Dozen Ways to Eliminate Your Food Waste

The average consumer wastes 61 percent of the food he or she purchases. You can drastically reduce this with the tools and strategies suggested below. Please also refer to our previous article about proper food storage and how to keep your food items fresher.

1Shop WiselyPlan meals, use shopping lists, and avoid impulse buys and “buy one, get one free” deals, unless you’re certain you’ll eat it.
2Buy LocalLocally produced foods are fresher and keep longer, as well as having a smaller ecological footprint.
3Buy Funny-Looking Fruits and VeggiesBuying the “ugly ducklings” of the produce section makes use of food that might otherwise go to waste.
4Learn When Food Goes BadUse-by and best-by dates are only manufacturer suggestions and may cause you to discard food when it is still safe and consumable. Many foods are safe and consumable well after their use-by date.
5Use Your FreezerFreeze fresh produce and leftovers if you won’t have a chance to eat them before they go bad.
6Vacuum PackOne of my all-time favorite tricks, which works for most produce, is to create a “vacuum pack” to help protect food from oxygen and airborne microbes that will accelerate its decay. Leave the produce in the bag it came in from the grocery store, place it against your chest, and use your arm to squeeze the excess air out of the bag. Then seal it with a twist tie. Or use an automatic vacuum sealer like the FoodSaver.
7Start JuicingJuicing is an excellent way to use up aging produce while improving your health at the same time. Vegetable juicing also helps with weight management and is a great adjunct to home gardening. You can also compost the pulp.
8Request Smaller PortionsRestaurants will often provide half-portions upon request at reduced prices.
9Eat LeftoversOnly about half of Americans take leftovers home from restaurants and actually eat them. Avoid this kind of waste.
10Compost Food ScrapsComposting food scraps recycles their nutrients and can reduce their ecological impact. It benefits soil, plants, and the greater environment. Composting is not as difficult as you might think. Read all about composting here.
11Grow Your Own FoodStart your own vegetable garden! With the square foot gardening technique, even apartment dwellers can learn a simple technique for growing veggies on a small patio.
12Donate FoodDonate excess food and garden produce to food banks, soup kitchens, pantries, shelters—and your friends and neighbors.
